Canton pest control

We are Ohio's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Canton raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Canton pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Canton Raccoon Control Tip: How Should You Deal With A Trapped Raccoon?
There are many different methods of dealing with a raccoon infestation, or simply the presence of raccoon activity near your home, and one of the most common approaches here is to use a cage trap. Before you start laying a trap to catch a problem raccoon, it is important to consider what you are hoping to do with the trapped raccoon, to ensure there are no hurdles you may have to deal with later in the process.

Trapping Techniques And Choosing The Right Type Of Trap
Firstly, before you start to deal with a raccoon, it is important to choose the right type of trap, and if you are intending to transport the raccoon, either for relocation or for euthanasia, then a cage trap will usually be the option that makes the most sense. Cage traps will usually be sturdy and are designed to be lifted and moved with the raccoon inside. If you do decide to use snare or paw-grip style traps, this does leave you with the additional work of having to transfer an angry and frustrated raccoon into an animal carrier to be moved, which isn't always easy to do safely.

Is There A Nest Of Baby Raccoons To Deal With?
If you are dealing with a raccoon infestation in an attic or another cavity of your property, you should also check to see if there are any baby raccoons in the nest when you have trapped the female raccoon. The reason for this is that these babies will die if left alone without their mother, and having those baby raccoons decaying inside your property are not only likely to cause a health hazard, but can also attract other pest animals to the area. Where possible, try to remove those baby raccoons along with the mother.

Relocating A Raccoon
Where possible, most people will want to deal with a trapped raccoon by relocating it to another area where it will no longer be a nuisance. It is however important to check about the regulations around relocating raccoons in your area, as some counties and states have regulations around moving pest animals, and some will require consent from the landowner before any pest animals are released on their land. If it is legal for you to proceed in your area, then make sure that you choose a rural spot well away from any other domestic homes, and choose a site that is at least ten miles away from your property too.

Raccoon Euthanasia
In some areas it will prohibited or impractical to relocate a raccoon that has been caught in a cage trap, and in this instance the remaining option is then to kill the raccoon, but in this case it is important to do it as humanely as possible. In some areas you may find veterinarians or specialists who will be able to put the raccoon down, while in some areas you may have to deal with the raccoon yourself, with shooting and carbon monoxide chambers often being used for this purpose.

Cleaning And Repairs After A Raccoon Infestation
Once you have dealt with the raccoon infestation itself, it is still important to carry out the repairs that will keep raccoons away in the future, and also to clean the area. In terms of repairs, this can include replacing soiled insulation material, and checking any wires in the area for signs of being damaged, and sealing any access points they used to get in and out of your property. In terms of cleaning, make sure that any areas soiled with feces or urine are cleaned thoroughly, before fumigating the area with a disinfectant, to kill any remaining bacteria or spores.
